If you like to practice 2-3 times a week you are only paying about £6 a class, and of course the more you practice the cheaper each class becomes.

Class Time Survey

Which are your favourite classes?

We are holding our second survey on best class times. We would like to add more classes, and of course since you attend the classes we would love to have your input. Please click on the button below to go straight to the survey and fill it in. This is the best way to be involved in how we run the studio.

How many of you love the new 7:00am class? Would you like it to be earlier? Here is your chance to make a difference. Those that shout the loudest get heard the most.

The 7:00am classes will remain through August. Should we add a third class? Those of you who would only be able to practice before work can get three classes in during the week. What day would suit you the best? Make a difference click now. Use them or lose them.

Congratulations, Harriet

Harriet has had a baby boy, Casper Wayne Lawson. Harriet, we hope to see you in class soon! Nadine has had a baby girl.

Richie, Senior Teacher

From the month of August, Ritchie Caveney will be our resident Senior Teacher, so he will be teaching more classes and will be available to help before and after class. August 28th Open Day

Come to our Open Day on Saturday, April 17th, with free yoga at 12pm and 2pm.

Open Day is a great opportunity to introduce Bikram Yoga to family and friends.

Pranayama Deep Breathing

Pranayama Deep breathing. Why do we start class with this? How many times have you rushed to class late and found it hard to settle down? Pranayama is a diaphramatic breath that expands the ribcage and fills up the lungs to capacity, whatever that may be for you at the present time. You also exhale as much air as you can out of the lungs. It is important to remember that the pause at the end of inhalation and exhalation are equally as important.

Prana means life force.

'When the Breath wanders, the mind is unsteady, but when the Breath is still, so is the mind still." --Hatha Yoga Pradipika

Breathing is life. It is one of our most vital functions. One of the Five Principles of Yoga is Pranayama or Breathing Exercise, which promotes proper breathing. Proper breathing is to bring more oxygen to the blood and to the brain, and to control Prana or the vital life energy. Pranayama goes hand-in-hand with the Asanas. The union of these two Yogic Principles is considered as the highest form of purification and self-discipline, covering both mind and body.

Email newsletter

At the end of July 2010 we sent out our first official monthly newsletter. It's going to be full of information not just about yoga but also about you and the things you love. Therefore you need to contribute. any small thing, a snippet about an injury, an exciting personal bit of news, even a testimonial, but most of all what you think about our community and how we can make it better. Please feel free to email info@bikramyogabrighton.com with anything you would like to go into our next newsletter.

In the first newsletter we looked at Pranayama breathing. What is it all about? What are we trying to achieve?

We're also going to have a feature called Teachers Malaprops. Anything you hear us say in class that is really crazy, write it in the notebook at the desk and we can laugh at ourselves.

Beginner workshops

To support newcomers to Bikram Yoga we are running one-to-one consultations and beginner workshops at 12pm on the third Saturday of every month. The sessions will address common questions and give new students the opportunity to discuss the experiences they have had during their first month's practice for a FREE hour.

The next workshop will be on Saturday, September 18th, 2010 from 12:00pm to 1:30pm.

Friday Night Chi and Chat

Next month we're launching Friday Night Chi and Chat. Come and do some relaxing networking after class, drink chi tea and listen to an informal chat, starting with our resident chiropractor Dr Rebecca Nicholas.
